Summer Planning Intern

Location: Lyndhurst, NJ

Type: Paid In-Person Internship (Summer 2026: June 1 – August 7)

Neglia Group is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Summer Planning Intern to join our Planning Department in Lyndhurst, NJ. The ideal candidate is a current junior or senior undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in Urban or Regional Planning, Public Policy, Geography, or a related discipline. This is a paid part-time, temporary position that provides direct exposure to municipal and community planning practices across New Jersey.

Since our founding, we have developed a wealth of expertise across multiple service areas, including Site / Civil Engineering, Municipal & County Government, Traffic Engineering, Water & Wastewater, Construction Management, Surveying, 3D Laser Scanning, GIS & Data Services, Planning, and Landscape Architecture.

Experience and Requirements

  1. Current junior or senior undergraduate or graduate student in Planning, Public Policy, Geography, or a related field.
  2. Strong written, analytical, and organizational skills.
  3. Excellent attention to detail and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  4. Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with GIS software is a plus.
  5. Interest in municipal planning, redevelopment, and affordable housing policy.
  6. This position is not eligible for health or dental benefits.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assist in the preparation and review of master plans, redevelopment studies and redevelopment plans.
  2. Conduct land use research, data collection, and policy analysis for ongoing projects.
  3. Summarize zoning ordinances, redevelopment studies, and planning board applications.
  4. Support planners by drafting reports, maps, charts, and graphics.
  5. Attend internal meetings and municipal hearings to observe the New Jersey planning process.
  6. Contribute to planning initiatives promoting conscious, sustainable, and equitable community development.

  2. Learn about affordable housing planning and fair share compliance frameworks.
  3. Understand the structure and function of municipal, county, and consultant planning roles.
  4. Strengthen skills in technical writing, research, and presentation within a consulting environment.
