Sussex Avenue Renew School Schoolyard

The goal of this project was to increase recreation opportunities available for the students and local community through a partnership between Congregation Ahavas Sholom, Newark Public Schools, the State of New Jersey and other funders. Through a community participation effort involving: representative students, school teachers, staff and administration, and the local community, an overall design was developed.

The final design includes passive and active opportunities, such as a synthetic turf area, playground equipment, game tables and benches for an outdoor classroom, teaching garden, performance area, track, junior basketball, age appropriate painted games, and seating areas.
